Hamish and Kate found the lack of space in their home a challenge, especially with their energetic pre-schooler to consider.
Wanting to repurpose their garage as a self-contained flat, this homeowner contacted Design to Renovate.
Although aspects of this homely bungalow in Waiau Pa, Auckland needed modernising, preserving and reinforcing original elements were an integral part of the new design.
Many homes in Takanini are within the suburban housing developments that have been developed throughout the area in recent decades; their land plots average about 215m2.
For many families, Pukekohe, Auckland is the perfect balance of country and city. It’s not far from the coast, there’s a variety of schools in the area, and Manukau and Auckland are easily accessible by train for commuters.
Manurewa homeowners Violet and Ian were eager to expand their small,
3-bedroom home. With two almost-teenagers, they were quickly outgrowing the property and wanted to organise a budget-friendly renovation that would address the lack of living space.

Renovation specialist Kim Reiche helped the homeowners of this 1970's a-frame bach in Port Waikato convert it into their forever home!
With two young children and a third on the way, this family needed their home in Manurewa, Auckland to be larger and more accommodating of their growing needs.
A lengthy search for the ideal site of their next build proved to be well worthwhile as this couple now has a beautiful rural sanctuary to call home.
Overlooking the Tamaki Strait with Waiheke in the distance, Lesley and Michael’s four-bedroom, two-bathroom home is situated high in the hills amongst palms, ferns, and other native plants. But that breezy coastal feeling was stopped dead in its tracks the minute you approached the home.
